GETTING TO KNOW YOUR LIBRARY USING SCAVENGER HuNTS

Learn different activities to do with your classes to help them learn all the different areas in your library.

{ 1 }

GRADE 1 / GRADE 2
  • Have students go around to each area on the scavenger hunt sheet.

  • At each location students will find a sign identical to the one on the scavenger hunt sheet and a container of stickers. 

  • Students take a sticker and put it beside the same picture on their scavenger hunt sheet.

  • At the end have the students gather back at the storytime area and go over the different stickers that were at each location.

  • Scavenger hunt sheet can become a bookmark and students can record their library day at the bottom.

GRADE 3
  • Have students go around to each area on the scavenger hunt sheet.

  • At each location students will find a sign identical to the one on the scavenger hunt sheet and a letter.

  • Students record the letter beside the identical picture to reveal a secret message.

  • At the end have the students gather back at the storytime area and all together whisper the secret message.  

  • Scavenger hunt sheet can become a bookmark and students can record their library day at the bottom.

GRADE 4
  • Have students go around to each area on the scavenger hunt sheet.

  • At each location students will find a picture identical to the one on the scavenger hunt sheet and a QR code.

  • Students use their device to scan the QR code and reveal a letter.

  • Students record the letter beside the indentical picture to reveal a secret message.

  • At the end have the students gather back at the storytime area and all together whisper the secret message.  

  • Scavenger hunt sheet can become a bookmark and students can record their library day at the bottom.

GRADE 5
  • Students read the clues on their scavenger hunt card and go to the location being described.

  • When students get to the location they will find a picture that they slip behind the clue.  

  • At the end have students gather back at the storytime area and discuss which pictures went with which clues.

  • If time doesn't permit for students to find all the pictures you can also use this as a BINGO card.  Have students get one or two bingo (a horizontal, vertical of diagonal line)


MAKING SCAVENGER HUNT CARDS

  • You can make two scavenger hunt cards with one sheet protector.

  • Cut sheet protectors in half.

  • Put a piece of card stock into the sheet protector.

  • Use a sewing machine to create your sections.

  • Print out your clues on labels and affix them onto each section.

  • Use an exacto knife to create a small opening at the back of each section.  This is where the pictures will slip into.
