  • Compare and contrast the boy in the story's idea of a library before he visited it with what he discovered after he visited it.  Use a T-table to organize the students' ideas.

  • Is there any place or teacher in your school that you were afraid of before you went there or met him/her?

  • Have you ever had a different opinion of a place after visiting than before you went? 

Library Orientation

 

Review library rules and manners after reading The Librarian from the Black Lagoon by Mike Thaler.

 

  • Brainstorm a list of library rules.

  • Add ridiculous OR ELSE clauses to each rule

    • For example:

      • Return your book on time OR ELSE you have to swim with sharks

      • Use a shelf marker OR ELSE you have to clean the teachers' bathrooms
