It's a Book

Before: 

  • What information can you learn about a book from looking at the front and back cover?

  • What do you think this book is about?

  • How do you think the book will begin/end? 

  • Read the blurb on the back cover of the book. 

    • What is the purpose of a blurb?

    • What information does this blurb give you about the book? 

During: 

  • Create a T-table with the headings: What the book can do and What the book can't do.  As you read the book have the students help to record all the different features that are mentioned in the story.  

After:

  • What do you feel a book can do?

    • e.g. make you think, encourage imagination, take you to other 
      worlds.
